"This crime spans all walks of the community," Sgt. Dave Brown of the DeKalb County police said.

Investigators said the operation took weeks of planning.

The officers said they believe what they are doing is helping to protect kids.

"This is a new day. Four weeks ago, since this unit started, we made more arrests in those four weeks than the entire year before those arrests," Brown said.

DeKalb police said the new unit is searching social networking sites, and investigators are busting criminals linked to child porn, sex abuse and even sex trafficking.

Officers said sometimes a suspect's family doesn't even know what's going on.

"Even the suspect's own wife was shocked. Yes, she is shocked. As you can suspect, early in the morning, she didn't know what was going on and why we (were) there," Brown said.
