“The tortoise was likely removed from its enclosure by someone and may have been taken from the zoo,” the Oshkosh Police Department said in a news release.

Zoo officials said they are concerned about the animal being able to live outside of its habitat.

"They do need their heat lamps and things when it gets cool, and they have very specific diets and things, so we're very concerned," said Stacy Donnelly, with the Menominee Park Zoo.

The Police Department said the tortoise is not a threat to the public. It cannot swim and will drown if it is submerged in water, police said.

“We're hoping that the public will help us to locate this or will see something out of the ordinary with somebody that typically doesn't have a tortoise at their home,” Oshkosh Parks director Ray Maurer said.

Anyone with information on Anastasia’s whereabouts is asked to call Oshkosh police at 920-236-5700.
