Several injured in school bus crash near Seattle

SEATTLE, Wash. — Deputies are investigating a crash involving a vehicle and school bus in Covington, Washington on Monday afternoon.

Investigators said a vehicle was trying to make a left turn but slammed into the school bus.

There were 28 students from Kentlake High School on the school bus and of the 28, seven had minor injuries. King County Sheriff's Office spokesman Ryan Abbott said the students were not taken to the hospital.

Deputies said the driver and front passenger of the vehicle were taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The King County Sheriff's Office said there were four people in the back seat. One person stayed at the scene but three people fled and were captured. Of the three people that fled, two were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Abbott said one person in the vehicle had a handgun.

Witness Thuy Tran was about to turn left but she told WSB-TV sister station KIRO 7 the vehicle involved in the crash cut her off.

"I was stopping for the bus but the car behind me didn't want to stop," said Tran. "Went around me, to the right side, made a left turn right in front of me and drove right into the school bus."

Surveillance cameras at Jody Lewis' business Rehv Arms captured the crash scene.

"Ironically, all three of them come back to the vehicle to retrieve something," Lewis said.

The investigation remains ongoing.
