ATLANTA — Actor Wentworth Miller took on a viral post that showed the star of the famed show "Prison Break" with side-by-side pictures, one of him in the show and the other of him in a red shirt showing some extra weight.

The Facebook post by The LAD Bible put a caption on it saying, “When you break out of prison and find out about McDonald’s monopoly…”

Miller took to his Facebook page to use the post to educate his fans about his battle with depression.

“In 2010, semi-retired from acting, I was keeping a low-profile for a number of reasons. First and foremost, I was suicidal. This is a subject I've since written about, spoken about, shared about,” Miller said in his post. “I was looking everywhere for relief/comfort/distraction. And I turned to food. Miller said he was out and about for a hike in Los Angeles when the picture was taken by some paparazzi.

“They took my picture, and the photos were published alongside images of me from another time in my career. "Hunk To Chunk." "Fit To Flab." etc.” Miller said.

Despite what he calls the lowest point in his life, Miller said the picture now serves as a reminder of what he has overcome.

“When I see that image of me in my red t-shirt, a rare smile on my face, I am reminded of my struggle. My endurance and my perseverance in the face of all kinds of demons. Some within. Some without. Like a dandelion up through the pavement, I persist,” Miller said. “Long story short, I survived.”

Miller ended his post by adding resources for those who may be dealing with depression and suicide.
