YORK, S.C. - A sheriff's detective died unexpectedly moments after dancing with his daughter at her wedding.

Master Deputy II Tim Buchanan was enjoying his daughter's wedding day last weekend in Costa Rica when he suffered a massive heart attack just after the father-daughter dance, WJZY reports.

Tim worked for 19 years with the York County Sheriff's Office in South Carolina.

His wife, Jeni Buchanan said her husband ignored the warning signs, hoping to keep his family smiling.

"Family was the most important thing to him, to the point that he ignored his body telling him something was wrong," Jeni wrote on Facebook Monday. "He should have gone to the doctor, but he was afraid that he wouldn't be able to attend our daughter's wedding. Every one of us wish he was still here and hadn't ignored the signs that something was wrong."

Jeni said her husband was everything to her.

"Over the years we raised four amazing children, cared for my little brothers when they needed us the most and had even had the honor of a beautiful grandchild," Jeni wrote on Facebook. "He was the most beautiful soul I have ever known and I will never be the same without him."

Over the weekend, a friend captured a touching candid moment between Jeni and Tim before their daughter's wedding ceremony.

"Little did I know just a few hours later we would lose him," wrote Jeni on Facebook.

Friends of the family set up a GoFundMe to help pay for funeral costs. If you would like to donate, click here.
