Cowboy ropes runaway steer fleeing from police

WEATHERFORD, Texas — A cow is now back on a farm after police say it ran from a butcher’s shop and led Texas police officers on a chase throughout metro Dallas city.

Last Thursday, officers got a 911 call saying the steer had escaped a local meat market in Weatherford, Texas, and was on the loose.

"He didn't want to be where he wanted to be. He was trying to save his own life," Weatherford police Officer Cruz Rivas told WFAA-TV.

Rivas said during the chase he tried to steer the cow away from traffic and it ended up nudging his police cruiser. He now has a large dent on the driver's side door and a broken side mirror.

Enter Blake Davies and Justin Farber. Police called the duo for help corralling the runaway cow.

"It's crazy...when he called me and he's like 'hey you wanna go rope a cow?' I figured we'd be out in the field or something like that," Farber said.

Dashcam video shows Davies chasing down the steer on horseback, and bringing it to the ground.

Thanks to everyone’s quick actions, no one, or the cow, were injured in the incident.

The cow was taken to a nearby ranch.
