Atlanta officers deliver mattresses, donations to struggling family of 6

The family has children ranging from 2 months old to 6 years old.

ATLANTA — Atlanta police officers went above and beyond the call of duty to help a struggling family of six.

Last week, Atlanta police Investigator April White responded to an apartment complex on a call of a missing woman and child, but when she got there she found another situation that needed her attention.

White noticed that the family, with children ranging from 2 months old to 6 years old, didn’t have any beds. She immediately took to her personal Facebook page to help them out.

White asked friends to help her collect clothing, bedding and other household supplies to give to the family.

When Brian Woodward, the district manager for Mattress Firm, saw her post, he knew what he needed to do.

Woodward reached out to White, offering to donate and deliver beds to APD so they could give them to the family.

Tuesday, White and several other APD officers surprised the family with the mattresses and other donations.

“Beds are something we tend to take for granted,” White said. “I just wanted to help the family and see the children smile.”

And that’s exactly what she did.
