8:02am Channel 2's Mark Winne reports with attached video: The surface on the connector southbound varies widely from a dirty, snowy slushy mix in the midtown vicinity to a slick patina of packed snow and what looks like ice near Turner Field. There is a long boulevard of deep, chunky snow between ruts as Channel 2 Action News photographer Luis Argumedes steers us through downtown. One snow boulder was knee-high.

As we near Langford Parkway, we're passing a GDOT scraper, but the blade appears to have little effect on the packed white surface. There are a fair number of cars on the right shoulder all along. Visibility in the gray light of an overcast morning is poor, as far as differentiating between changes in the surface.

Luis, from Brooklyn, is experienced in such conditions, knowing that our fulltime all-wheel drive can improved traction, but does little or nothing for stopping. Judging from several of the vehicles I saw coming in this morning, I'm not sure everyone realizes this.
