MARTA Mobility Bus In Chain-Reaction Crash

ATLANTA — A MARTA mobility bus was involved in a crash Tuesday along with three other vehicles, officials confirmed to WSB-TV.

It happened on the Interstate 85 northbound ramp to Langford Parkway at about 10:09 a.m.

Three lanes were blocked as a result of the accident.

MARTA spokesman Lyle Harris said the driver of one of the vehicles was taken to an area hospital, but the MARTA bus driver and single passenger aboard the bus did not receive injures.

Authorities said a preliminary investigation indicates that a vehicle stopped on the ramp and the bus stopped behind it. Harris said a vehicle traveling behind the bus rear-ended the bus, triggering a chain-reaction crash involving three other vehicles.

According to MARTA's Web site, the buses are designed for, and restricted to, eligible individuals whose disabilities absolutely prevent them from using fixed route services.

Georgia State Patrol and a HERO unit are at the scene.
