Man Found Dead After Killing Woman In Home

JACKSON COUNTY, Ga.,None — A Jackson County man wanted in connection with the killing of a woman in Jefferson was found dead by police on Monday afternoon.

Tyrone Appling, 42, had been named as the suspect in the woman's death.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Appling was the victim's estranged husband.

Police said they found a woman dead in her home on Mounte Lane around 6:30 a.m. on Monday.

The GBI later identified the victim as 40-year-old Carlotta Shields Appling. GBI investigators said Tyrone Appling forcibly entered her residence and shot her.

Police launched a manhunt for Tyrone Appling in the Athens-Clarke County area, where he was seen just before noon near North and MLK Avenues.

The GBI said he was in a residential area behind Clarke Central High School at 3 p.m.

Authorities did not disclose details of Appling's death, but did say it was self-inflicted.
