Man Accused Of Abusing Newborn Daughter

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga.,None — A Forsyth County father is accused of abusing his 3-week-old daughter.

Investigators with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office said a local pediatrician contacted the Sheriff's Office after examining the baby. The baby suffered injuries consistent with child abuse, investigators said.

The father, Jeffery Andrew Silver, 36, was arrested and charged with one count of aggravated battery. Additional charges could follow, investigators said.

The baby was taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite and remains hospitalized with significant injuries. However the injuries are non-life-threatening, investigators said.

The baby's mother is not expected to be charged. A second child, a 2-year-old girl, was taken into protective custody, investigators said.

The Department of Family and Children's Services is investigating.
