Zoo Atlanta panda twins turn 1

ATLANTA — America's only twin giant pandas turned 1 Tuesday. According to Zoo Atlanta officials, fans from near and far were invited to watch and celebrate the panda's at two special events Saturday and Tuesday.

Mei Lun and Mei Huan were the first giant pandas born in the U.S in 2013 and are the only pair of surviving giant panda twins ever born in the U.S.

As the twins entered their habitat, a crowd of people sang Happy Birthday to them. Afterwards, Mei Lun, Mei Huan and their mother found two handcrafted ice cakes. The cakes featured bamboo, fruit and other frozen panda treats.

The twins and their mother enjoyed gift boxes and fans were able to take home commemorative birthday buttons, and leave well-wishes for the cubs.
