CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. - A Cherokee County deputy opened fire on a suspect following a chase on Tuesday afternoon, officials said.
Authorities told Channel 2 Action News the chase ended on Neese Road at Highway 92 in Cherokee County.
Channel 2's Ross Cavitt confirmed that a man stole a Cherokee County deputy's vehicle Tuesday afternoon. It began on Highway 92 at a Baxter's store, where deputies got word that a wanted man was hanging out. When they found the man, he took off.
A chase then ensued on foot from that location, officials said. The man went around the building and then jumped in a deputy's patrol car. He then drove toward the deputy. Officials said the deputy fired shots at the car as the
suspect got on Highway 92 and came to a stop near Neese Road.
The wounded man, identified as 29-year-old Josiah Farino, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The GBI is investigating the case, a standard procedure for shootings involving law enforcement personnel.
