Woman robbed in apartment's gated parking garage

ATLANTA — Atlanta police are searching for a man who robbed a woman in her apartment's parking garage.

Nylah Lord told Channel 2's Amy Napier Viteri she was returning home from hanging out with friends when she did not notice that someone was following her into her northeast Atlanta parking garage.

Surveillance footage from the Jackson Street garage shows a man in a silver BMW following Lord's SUV.

"I was turning to get out and all of a sudden there he is. He grabbed me by the neck and told me to give him all my stuff," Lord said.

Lord said her response was to fight back, even though she knew she shouldn't.

"I got really angry and decided I am going to run after him. I know that's not what you are supposed to do, but I was mad. It was just instant adrenaline rush," Lord said.

Surveillance footage shows the man falling as Lord chased him, but he scrambled back up.

Lord said the man was able to get back into his car and slip out of the garage when another car entered..

"It was perfect timing for him and bad timing for me, because you cannot get in or out of the garage without a clicker," Lord said.

Lord said although the incident happened a month ago, she is still anxious.

The robber got away with her purse and wallet, but police were able to recover her iPhone.

"It's not so much me getting anything back, it's just preventing it from happening again," Lord said.
