Woman jumps from car following carjacking outside nightclub

ATLANTA — A woman told police she was inside her fiance's car when a man stole it in west Midtown Atlanta and she escaped by jumping out when he stopped at a red light.

Channel 2's Nefertiti Jaquez spoke with the security guard who consoled the woman after she jumped from the stolen car.

Gas station security guard Lawrence Johnson recalls the moment the 35-year-old woman ran into the convenience store frantic and frazzled.

Johnson says at first she didn't utter a word then tears started streaming down her face.

"Once she came to me and told me what happened that's when she started crying," Johnson said.

Police say the woman was sitting inside her fiance's car when a man jumped in and stole it.

The woman's fiance had just finished playing a set with his band at the popular west Midtown nightspot when the carjacking occurred.

"She said she was in the car and they were getting ready to leave. Her car was at the valet. He went to go get her car at the valet. That's when the intruder jumped into the car and took off," Johnson said.

The woman managed to jump out of the Honda when cops say the suspect stopped at a red light on Spring Street.

"Her strap was a little loose and (there was) dried blood on her dress," Johnson said.

Johnson called 911 and police rushed to comfort the victim.

Police found the 2010 Honda Accord had been ditched in DeKalb County. Detectives were able to track down the car using the victim's Find My iPhone app.

Police say they were able to get fingerprints that may belong ;to the carjacker.
