Woman describes being pushed out of car on I-85

Joresa Critten said she is thankful to be alive after someone pushed her from a moving car on Interstate 85 near Sylvan Road.

"I thank the Lord because if it wasn't for him, I could have died out there on the expressway," Critten told Channel 2's Amy Napier Viteri in her only interview since the March 7 incident.

Critten spent nearly a month in the intensive care unit at Grady Memorial Hospital. She told Viteri she was in a car with her friend and three other people who were taking her home.

During that ride she said one of the men opened the door to the moving car and pushed her out.

"Literally kicked me with his feet, head first out of the car," Critten said.

She said she believes the men wanted a $2,500 check she had on her at the time.

The 22-year-old, who is getting ready to celebrate a birthday, is also recovering from facial reconstructive surgery and a badly broken leg.

She said doctors told her it could be a year before she is able to walk and get metal rods removed from her pelvis, which is broken in two.

"Me and my family have to suffer for something that I really didn't do nothing to nobody for them to do this to me," Critten said.

Hapeville police said they're looking into Critten's claims she was robbed. How she ended up on the roadway is still under investigation. Critten has no insurance and said her family's medical bills are now over $1 million.

Critten also hopes to find the owner of a distinctive jacket with a Spiderman logo. She told Viteri a good Samaritan pulled over to help her and covered her with the jacket before she was transported to the hospital. Critten said she wants to return the jacket and thank the man.

A fund has been set up for the family to help with medical costs through Wells Fargo in Joresa Critten's name.
