Woman critical after rescue on Chattahoochee

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Paramedics rushed a female kayaker to an emergency room Monday afternoon after she suffered a seizure while on the Chattahoochee River.

Crews from Sandy Springs and Cobb County rushed to the river underneath Johnson Ferry Road, where other kayakers had brought the woman to shore. They believe the hot weather may have contributed to her medical distress. Crews had to break into a water treatment power plant at the river to get to her.

"To get to her, we had to get the boat, get the boat in the water, and we came up the river. (We then) picked her up and we had an ambulance waiting to take her to North Fulton Hospital," said Sandy Springs Fire Battallion Chief Ronny Thomas.

The woman was unresponsive, but was breathing when taken to the hospital.
