Woman attacked walking home in Buckhead

ATLANTA — The search is on for a man who attacked a woman on a Buckhead sidewalk, and left her bloody and bruised.

It happened Monday night near 25th and Peachtree streets as the woman walked home from watching Game 7 of the NBA Finals.

The bloody attack left the Buckhead resident with staples in the back of her head and bruises all over her body.

"I'm in pain. I hurt. My body hurts, but I'm not going to add anger on top of that," the victim said.

The victim said around 11 p.m. a man came from behind near a Porta-Potty and attacked her. She says the man used a weapon to cut the back of her head and her ear.

"It happened so fast and from behind that I did not even know exactly what was happening and at one point he said 'Give me your purse,'" the victim said.

The woman fell to the ground on Peachtree Street just before 25th Street before the man ran off with her purse.

Someone nearby stayed with her until police showed up.

"He took his shirt off so that I could hold it against my ear because it was bleeding pretty profusely," the victim said.

The victim said the robber never had to ambush her.

"If he had walked up to me face to face with a knife and said 'Give me your purse.' I would have said 'Here you go,'" the victim said.

Atlanta Police cameras in the area captured footage of the suspect.

The victim said she hopes that video will lead to an arrest.
