Friends mourn Kennesaw State student

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Channel 2 Action News is working to get more details from police after the arrest of a woman accused of fatally shooting a Kennesaw college student.

Sparkles Lashayla Lindsey, 22, was taken into custody late Friday night in the shooting of Kim Kilgore, 21. Kilgore was shot and killed about 2 a.m. Friday in Kennesaw. Cobb police confirm a road rage incident between two women led to a physical altercation before shots were fired in the parking lot of the Shiloh Green Apartments in Kennesaw.

Lindsey, a resident of Austell, has been charged with aggravated assault and murder.

Loved ones said Kilgore should have been working at Johnny's BBQ in Powder Springs Friday night. Instead, her friends and colleagues say she died after being taken off life support, hours after she was shot at the apartments.

"She was a beautiful person inside and out," friend and colleague Emily Benton told Channel 2's Ashley Swann. "Her personality just lifted everybody up."

Kilgore's boss at the restaurant says Kilgore's best friend, who he also employs, witnessed the shooting.

"She just couldn't believe everything that happened," Rick Collett said. "I don't understand how there could be an altercation because ... she was not combative at all."

Kilgore, known as "KK" to friends, attended Kennesaw State University and worked at Johnny's every weekend.

"She works every Friday night and here it is Friday night and we're walking around ... just can't even describe the feeling," Manager Alisa Pannell told Swann.

Kilgore's friends and loved ones are sharing photos and memories of her on social media sites using the hashtag #prayforkim. They hope prayers will bring peace, but also justice for the person who took her life.

"How can somebody do that? I mean, how do you just do that to an innocent person?" Pannell asked. "It's just nothing you can prepare yourself for."

Swann will have new details on this story on The Channel 2 Action News Nightbeat at 11.
