DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - A deadly bar shooting in DeKalb County may have had something to do with someone inappropriately touching a woman.
Several witnesses who did not want to be identified told Channel 2’s Erica Byfield that the man who died was trying to defend a woman.
The shooting happened early Sunday morning at El Trebol Billiards Bar off of Buford Highway.
DeKalb police said an off-duty officer working security called for backup after a fight broke out a little before midnight. When the second officer arrived, they heard shots inside the bar, police said.
Investigators said a gunman shot four people and then the officers ran inside and one of the them shot and killed the gunman.
Byfield talked to a man who said he tried to hold the shooter down.
"I was kind of close and trying to hold his gun but he was still shooting," said security guard Vladimir Starovents.
Starvoents told Byfield the gunman hit him in the head with a gun.
Another man, who did not want to be identified, said when he heard the shots he ran towards the back door.
"Everyone running, everywhere, everyone was running for their lives," he said.
A security guard who wasn't working Saturday night said he knew the man who died.
"He came here on several occasions with the two firearms that he probably got killed with," said Reggie Gray.
The two officers involved in the shooting are on paid leave pending an internal investigation, which is standard practice following officer-involved shootings.
