Woman says dark web hacker accessed credit card info through pizza app

WALTON COUNTY, Ga. — A woman in Loganville says someone hacked an app on her phone, stole her credit card information and bought $70 worth of pizza.

Melisa Corley said she signed up for the Domino's app for convenience, but instead it caused her trouble.

She said she received an email a few weeks ago that said nearly $70 worth of pizza was charged to her card and delivered to an address in Fort Worth, Texas.

"It just struck me as odd. How could this happen?" Corley said.

Corley said someone from the dark web hacked into her account information on the app.

"The dark web is actually the web, but there's accounts out there made secretively where they can hack your information or get onto your apps," she said.

Corley said the person in Texas who received the pizzas bought what they thought was a legitimate $15 special for Domino's pizza from a Twitter account. The person actually sent the hacker that $15, who then used Corley's Domino's account to order $66 worth of pizza.

Domino's sent Channel 2's Justin Wilfon a statement that said it's app "has not been hacked."

The company said someone possibly easily gained access to Corley's information because she might use the same email address and passwords across many websites.

"I change my passwords periodically and I always change my passwords to something nobody else would know," Corley said.

She filed a police report and hopes to find the hacker.

Corely said the lesson here is to think twice before storing your credit card information in any app or website.
