Video shows man with AK-47 shooting into car

ATLANTA — Atlanta police are looking for the men who opened fire on a man in a parking lot in southwest Atlanta.

The shooting left the victim critically injured. Police have now released surveillance video that they hope will lead to tips from the community.

The shooting happened on Alison Court in southwest Atlanta on Friday.

"The victim stated he was just pulling into the parking lot, just sitting in his car on his phone when he noticed the guys standing in front of the store," Atlanta police Detective Steven Blackman told Channel 2's Ryan Young.

Surveillance video showed a man walking over to a red Chevrolet Camaro and pulling an AK-47 from the trunk. There were also three other armed men nearby.

"They were just looking at him, trying to figure out what was going to happen. All of a sudden when one of the guys tries to get in his car, he pulls out, and that's when they just started shooting at him," Blackman said.

The man in the car was only hit by one bullet, "through the back, and it came out of his abdomen," Blackman said.

Now, police are stepping up patrols in the area.

"We still have work to do in this community. We understand that there are still people who have issues with doing the right thing," Atlanta police Major Rodney Bryant said.
