Victim stumbles into McDonald's after double shooting in busy shopping center

ATLANTA — Two people were shot outside a convenience store in SW Atlanta.

The incident happened on MLK Jr. Drive at Peyton Place on Friday morning.

Witnesses said they heard several shots coming from the shopping plaza around 10 a.m.

Police said two men shot at each other inside of a car.

"They were both involved in an altercation with each other inside the vehicle and all shots were fired inside the vehicle," Atlanta police Sgt. John Chafee said.

Police said the victims in the case are also suspects. One was shot in the head, and one was shot in the leg, according to police.

“They were both shot. The male that was in the vehicle and remained in the vehicle was shot in the head and chest. The second male was shot once in the buttocks and leg. He ran from the scene, but was located a short distance away,” Chafee said.

Police said there was a female witness in the car at the time of the shooting.

“At this point, we’re trying to investigate to figure out what happened, why this happened and what led to the shooting,” Chafee said.

Witnesses told Channel 2’s Tyisha Fernandes that one of the men stumbled to a nearby McDonald’s to get help.

Both men were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.
