UPS customers sound off over late deliveries

ATLANTA — There's growing concern about Christmas gifts arriving on time.

Channel 2 investigative reporter Wendy Halloran spent Wednesday looking into complaints against UPS.

Eric Nickens wanted to put his dilemma into the spotlight, so he contacted Channel 2 Action News.

"In this case you, under-prepared and you're being overwhelmed," Nickens said about the delivery company.

UPS boasted earlier in the year it would hire 95,000 seasonal workers to meet increased demands of holiday shipping.

Nickens said he ordered a gift for his goddaughter on Dec. 11. It took more than a week and a half to arrive in Doraville. But the story of the delay didn’t end there.

“Somehow, mysteriously it ended up in Columbus, Georgia, due to a mis-sort,” Nickens told Halloran.

UPS acknowledged his package was incorrectly sorted.

It finally made its way back to Doraville, where it sat. Nickens said he read them the riot act over the phone.

“They wouldn’t get off their butts to deliver it to the Postal Service to make final delivery,” Nickens said.

And he’s not alone. UPS customers are sounding off on social media, complaining on the UPS Facebook page with similar nightmare stories.

Halloran reached out to UPS and received a statement from the company:

“The vast majority of UPS shipments are being delivered in accordance with the published time in transit.  Based on current tracking information, the package in question is out for delivery today.”

UPS lived up to its word. Nickens sent photos after his package arrived in time so he has a gift to give his goddaughter.

Halloran received several emails from UPS customers alleging they are in a similar predicament.
