UGA football player arrested on aggravated assault charge

ATHENS, Ga. — A University of Georgia defensive lineman was arrested and charged with aggravated assault/domestic violence Tuesday morning.

UGA police arrested Jonathan Taylor and booked him into the Athens-Clarke County Jail at 6:08 a.m., according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

The incident report was not yet available, but police said they responded to a third-party call at about 2:30 a.m. The call was to report a woman who had been hurt by her boyfriend.

Police met her at Busbee Hall, along with the caller.

Police said there were physical signs someone had strangled the woman.

They determined the incident happened at McWhorther Hall and there, made contact with Taylor.

Taylor and his girlfriend had been living together, according to police.

He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault/domestic violence.

This marked the second arrest of the year for the 6-foot-4, 336-pound sophomore from Millen.

He was one of four UGA players jailed on theft by deception charges in March. He was accepted into a pretrial intervention program last month.

He was immediately suspended from the team indefinitely per UGA policy.
