2 Fort Benning soldiers killed, 3 more injured in weather-related incident

WHITE COUNTY, Ga — Two Georgia soldiers have died after a weather-related incident in north Georgia.

The U.S. Army said it happened at north Georgia’s Yonah Mountain.

The soldiers were stationed at Fort Benning near Columbus.

The Maneuver Center of Excellence and Fort Benning Public Affairs Office said three other soldiers were hurt and in the hospital.

Details on the accident have not yet been released, so it is unclear what weather-related event led to the soldiers’ deaths and injuries.

The names of the soldiers who were involved have also not been released.

This is the second weather-related accident involving Georgia soldiers in the past month.

On July 20, one soldier died and nine others were injured after they were hit by a lightning bolt while on a range at Fort Gordon.
