A construction worker laying a water line in Alpharetta was killed Wednesday after a tractor ran over him, police said.
Alpharetta police told Channel 2’s Mike Petchenik another worker was operating the large machinery and accidentally backed over the victim on McGinnis Ferry Road near Windward Concourse.
“He was a good worker,” colleague Jesus Lozano told Petchenik. “I pick him up every morning. He always be on time. He always do what I told him."
An investigator from the Occupational Safety Hazard Administration (OSHA) was at the scene gathering evidence.
Police said the crew worked for a Fulton County subcontractor, D & H Construction out of Atlanta.
Records on OSHA’s website show in 10 years the company hasn’t recorded a construction site accident. However, records showed inspectors found 12 violations at sites and fined the company nearly $43,000.
Petchenik reached one of the company’s owners, who said he would call back, but as of Wednesday afternoon, the call was unreturned.
Fulton County Medical Examiner investigators told Petchenik they were withholding the victim’s identity while they notified family members.
Police told Petchenik they don’t suspect any foul play.
“All indications at this point, everything points to a tragic accident that resulted in a loss of life,” said Officer George Gordon.
