TIMELINE: Escaped inmates accused of shooting, killing 2 correctional officers

PUTNAM COUNTY, Ga. — A manhunt is underway for two escaped inmates accused of shooting and killing two correctional officers in Putnam County Tuesday morning.

Authorities say the inmates are armed with the officers’ pistols.

Putnam County authorities say there were a total of 33 prisoners on the bus at the time of the shooting.

The bus was transporting the prisoners to Hancock State Prison and Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison when two inmates overpowered the two Baldwin State correctional officers.

5:50 p.m.

Authorities said the stolen Honda Civic was found in the woods not far from the scene of the home burglary in Morgan County.

5:30 p.m.

Putnam County sheriff's office said they located the green Honda Civic the escaped inmates stole on Tuesday. They said everyone should still be on the lookout for the white 2008 Ford F-250.

1:37 p.m. 

The Georgia Corrections Dept. confirms the escaped convicts accused of killing two officers were cellmates, and say they may have split up by now.

1:32 p.m. 

Sheriff Howard Sills said in a news conference, They just murdered two corrections officers in a brutal fashion. They’re not concerned with anything regarding human life. They are dangerous criminals.”

The two escaped inmates may have "acquired" money, Sheriff Sills said.

Escaped inmates stole another car, police say. They are now on the run in white 2008 Ford F-250, BCX 5372.

According to officials, they are still actively searching for the two inmates. The Oconee County Sheriff's Office posted, " We have no new information to disseminate this morning. As we receive information for release, we will release it."

Sheriff says they will be working through the night and around the clock until the fugitives are caught.

Neighbors said they helped officers search for the inmates.

Authorities search for green Honda civic escaped inmates believed to be traveling in. It is a green Honda Civic with license plate RBJ6601. Investigators said the inmates carjacked a driver at gunpoint.

Putnam County Sheriff holds news conference regarding escaped inmates. "They were both shot on their bus. I have their blood on my shoes," sheriff Howard Sillis said.
