Threat phoned in involving Conyers Walmart

ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga.,None — A Walmart in Conyers was evacuated after someone in New York received a call early Tuesday that the store could be targeted in an attack, according to Conyers police.

Someone in Albany, NY, received a voicemail with specific threats toward a list of names and numbers around 4 a.m., said Conyers police spokeswoman Jackie Dunn. Among the targets was a Walmart on Dogwood Drive in Conyers.

“The threat was very specific and contained a specific location in the store,” Dunn told Channel 2 Action News.

The voicemail recipient contacted authorities, and the Walmart store was evacuated.

“I just seen a whole lot of police going across the parking lot, and I didn't know what was going on. I seen a lot of people running out of Walmart, and I was just making sure everybody was alright,” said Brad Seaborn, who works at the Value Village store next door.

Walmart was shut down for more than an hour while Conyers police searched the store with K-9 dogs but nothing was found, Dunn said. The time for the attack mentioned in the call has lapsed, and the store has since opened.

The U.S. Homeland Security Department has been alerted of the threat.
