Teen seriously injured in crash

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — A teen girl was struck by a car at a busy Sandy Springs intersection on Friday.

The crash happened on Roswell and Dalrymple roads shortly before 5:30 p.m. News Chopper 2 flew over the intersection, where traffic was piling up during the evening rush-hour.

"Just avoiding the area at all costs is the best thing for drivers right now," Channel 2's Jason Durden said.

Police said a 16-year-old North Springs Charter High School student was crossing the street when she was struck by a car. A backpack and other personal items were still lying in the street next to evidence markers while Sandy Springs police investigated.

The girl was taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta for treatment. Police said she was breathing but suffered serious injuries.

Police said the driver stopped after the crash. No charges have been filed at this time.
