Teen reports being followed by man

DULUTH, Ga. — A Gwinnett County neighborhood is on alert after a suspicious driver approached a girl as she walked to a neighbor's house to visit a friend.

"She was a little frantic when she got here," the neighbor told Channel 2's Amy Napier Viteri.

The neighbor, who asked not to be identified, called 911 after the 13-year-old showed up banging on his door in the River Place subdivision in Duluth.

"I looked up and saw a gentleman getting out of his van. The rear door to the van had been opened," the man said. "As soon as he saw me, he got back in his vehicle and basically shut the back door and screeched out of here."

The girl's mother told Viteri her daughter said the man followed her in reverse until she got to the neighbor's home.

"He saw her, looked at her, made eye contact, and then backed up to get next to her. Yeah, it shows some scary intent," the woman said.

Gwinnett County police are asking neighbors to be alert. Cpl. Edwin Ritter said there have been similar reports from nearby communities, but it's unclear if the cases are related.

"This location where this incident took place is nearby Johns Creek and south Forsyth County, where they've had apparently several incidents," Ritter said.

Since the incident, the homeowners' association sent a letter to neighbors proposing security cameras for the entrance to the subdivision, which is the only point of entry to the community.
