DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - A school was placed on lockdown for several hours after a suspect chase led to a shooting in DeKalb County on Friday morning.
U.S. marshal officers said they were following a suspect driving a car in the area of Flat Shoals Road and Panthersville Road. When they attempted to arrest the suspect, DeKalb Police Capt. F.P. Braun said the man pulled out a gun and shot himself in the head.
Flat Shoals Road is shut down due to the investigation.
Tavaris Turner and Dorothy Dickerson watched as a real-life crime drama played out 40 yards from where they were standing.
“We see the SUV smash into another car, then see a cop jump out the car heard gun shots and we start ducking down,” Dickerson said.
More than 50 officers from DeKalb police and U.S. marshals were called the scene.
DeKalb police are investigating the shooting.
The incident has also forced nearby Achievers Learning Academy to be placed on lockdown as a precaution. It has since been lifted.
