DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - U.S. Marshal's Office told Channel 2 Action News the man suspected in a deadly shooting at a Lawrenceville birthday party shot himself in the head Friday.
According to officials, Ohave Whitfield was in a car with a female driver on Wesley Chapel Road near Interstate 20 Friday morning. A police officer spotted the suspect after the driver ran a red light and followed the vehicle. They stopped at a store for an unknown reason and the suspect killed himself in the car.
The woman inside the car was not injured. She was detained and questioned.
Relatives of the woman said she had no idea Whitfield was wanted for murder. She said she picked him up after he said he needed a ride.
DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office is handling the suicidie investigation.
Whitfield is accused of shooting two women Sunday at a birthday party in Lawrenceville. Alicia Johnson, 53, was killed and her daughter, Dana Johnson, 31, was injured.
