Surveillance video shows moments before fatal hit-and-run wreck

Sandy Springs police released video Thursday of an SUV they believe struck and killed a woman Tuesday night.

Surveillance cameras on Roswell Road and Hightower Trail showed the dark-colored truck, described as a Chevy Tahoe, turning off of Roswell Road about 8:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Just off camera, police said the truck struck 67-year-old Lahnzen Pan. Pan later died from her injuries.

"It stopped for a brief moment then continued," said Sgt. Forrest Bohannon of the Sandy Springs Police Department. "We believe the truck knew what happened and fled the scene."

Bohannon told Channel 2's Mike Petchenik that when police find the driver, he or she will face vehicular homicide and hit-and-run charges. She said because the driver fled the scene, the charges would be upgraded to felony.

"Anyone with information should give us a call," she told Petchenik.

Petchenik spoke to a friend of Pan's at the Hellenic Towers senior living community on Roswell Road.

Hai Xing Nie described Pan as a nice woman who was religious, and he said her friends were saddened by what happened.

"I know every weekend (she) go to church," he told Petchenik.

Police are offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the driver. The number to call is 404-577-8477.
