Students prepare for first day at new schools after redistricting plan

A parent preparing her son for the new school year says her nine-year-old has to make some adjustments after the school he's attended his whole life was closed due to a redistricting plan.
"East Lake for us was a school of choice. We always lived outside of the district," said Mia Evans Buckner.
But on Monday, her son, Tyler, will be going somewhere else.
"I'm going to Bolton (Elementary School.) It's all right. It's just kind of sad I have to be separated from my friends because my school shutting down," Tyler told Channel 2's Erica Byfield.
The boy is one of the hundreds of students going through that change after Atlanta Board of Education voted in April to close seven schools. The closings included two middle and five elementary schools.
Tyler's mother said the short notice meant charter schools and private schools weren't even an option.
"I wish they would have taken that into consideration," Buckley said. "We were left scrambling trying to figure out what's next for our child and we have very little time to do so."
Recently, Atlanta Public Schools Superintendent Erroll Davis said district leaders made changes they think will have minimal impact on the students.
"We certainly don't want anyone to feel these schools will be closed," Davis said.
Buckner hopes Davis is right and said she just wants her son to succeed.
"We are certain that our children no matter where they go will be successful because Atlanta Public Schools produces really good product.
