Student reports attempted abduction while walking to school

ATLANTA — Atlanta police said they've stepped up patrols near a southeast Atlanta middle school after reports of an attempted abduction.

An eighth grader told teachers a strange man followed her and tried to get her in his car on her way to school Tuesday morning.

She said it happened as she walked to Crawford Long Middle School.  The girl's mother said she's thankful her daughter was able to get away and tell school officials.

The girl said the man was driving a red car with tinted windows.

Atlanta police canvassed the area but did not find the car or driver.
