Stay with cars while warming them up

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — The DeKalb County police chief is warning drivers warming up cars on cold mornings like today.

It may not be appealing to sit in your car as it warms up, but leaving it unattended leaves it available for crime of opportunity.

"We all like to get out there turn our cars on and get them warm before we get going, but what we see is an upsurge of car thefts," Chief Cedric Alexander said. "We just can't keep our cars out there running like that."

Alexander said always take your keys with you when you leave your car.

Channel 2's Ryan Young said he saw people running into gas stations with their cars running Wednesday morning.
