State workers march at labor dept. office

ATLANTA — A group of state workers held a march and victory rally Saturday at the downtown Atlanta department of labor office.

More than 64,000 Georgia food service workers, bus drivers and crossing guards believe they were wrongfully denied their unemployment benefits by Labor Commissioner Mark Butler last year. Workers said they were blindsided by cuts to summer unemployment benefits.

Lawmakers reversed the commissioner's actions during the last legislative session.

Saturday's 1-mile march was to remind officials about the promise to reimburse the withheld benefits.
