Star football player at Buckhead private school charged with sexual battery

ATLANTA — A varsity football player at a prestigious private school in Buckhead is charged with aggravated sexual battery for allegedly attacking another student.

The attack took place in the fall at Pace Academy during lunchtime.

A mother said her daughter was walking out of the Fine Arts Center when one of the students grabbed her by the wrist and forced himself on her.

“I’m upset. They had a duty to her and they failed her. They failed her miserably,” the victim's mother said.

Channel 2's Nefertiti Jaquez spoke with the victim's mother and her attorney who said they're upset because they believe the school did nothing to protect the alleged victim. She also says the student attacked her daughter another time.

Channel 2 Action News is not revealing her identity to protect her daughter's privacy but she made it clear the truth needs to be told.

“She was absolutely robbed of her innocence," the woman said.

She said the first alleged attack happened in September.

“I’m just really upset that she doesn’t have a voice.”

According to a police report, the suspect let her go after she fought back. A few weeks later, the boy allegedly tried to attack her again, but she managed to get away, before reporting him to a counselor.

“She felt betrayed because she thought these people truly loved and cared about her well-being. She had been there since she was 8 years old.”

She said she had no choice but to withdraw her daughter when the head of the school refused to suspend the boy and questioned her daughter’s truthfulness. She has hired attorney Sho Watson.

“The last communication that the school had with me is that they didn’t feel they were responsible,” Watson said.

The boy has been charged with two counts of aggravated sexual battery and the girl’s mother and her attorney are considering their legal options against the school.
