Woman knocked out of wheelchair after car plows through people fighting

SPALDING COUNTY, Ga. — A victim is speaking out after a woman accused of plowing into a group of people fighting in the street was arrested.

The 70-year-old victim said she had nothing to do with the street fight.

Virginia Sims said she was on her wheelchair minding her own business when she was hit.

“I saw the car was coming up and it turned and hit those people, and then it turned back this way and hit me,” Sims said.

She has been using her wheelchair for years. She is a cancer survivor, who had her voice box taken out years ago. Now, she is a survivor of a hit-and-run.

“It knocked me over and I hit my knee and my arm and my forehead,” Sims said.

“She knocked my glasses off my face and my pocketbook went one way and my cart went the other way,” she said.

Police are still investigating the fight.

“No one wanted to talk about what this was about on the scene,” said Georgia State Patrol Sgt. Kendrick Lowe. “Ms. Peoples didn’t want to talk, so we are still investigating what took place.”

Deputies arrested Peoples Thursday night after her father called authorities.

Sims said she’s not mad at Peoples, but wants her to pay for what she’s done.

“I was scared. I was shook up. I was scared,” Sims said.
