Residents say they've been living without A/C for months

EAST POINT, Ga. — With temperatures reaching their highest levels so far this summer, a frustrated mother says her family has been living without air conditioning for the past two months.

Stephanie Colvin told Channel 2’s Chris Jose that she’s not the only one living like this.

Tenants at the East Point apartment complex told Jose the a/c problems have been an ongoing issues this summer.

“We've been managing it. I went out and bought six fans,” Colvin said. “The thermostat says 90 degrees.”

Temperatures have been hitting in the 90s across the metro.

Colvin took Jose through her apartment, showing him how she put a fan in a window in the living room, and the bedrooms. Each one of them is blowing hot air.

She said she has been without air condition for two months.

“Probably since may,” Colvin told Jose. “I called them, they came out twice. but every time they came out, it would work 2 days then after that it wouldn't work no more.”

Another tenant, who goes by the nickname Ms. Rosa, claims she can't get property managers to fix the problem in her apartment as well.

Rosa told Jose that she's been filing work orders for months.

“My apartment is very, very hot. I keep complaining to them about it, but I don't know, it looks like they don't care,” Rosa said.

While Jose was meeting with tenants Sunday, he also found an unused pool filled with standing water.

“Green water has been sitting there like that, ever since last year,” Rosa said.

Neighbors are concerned about the potential health hazards here.

“I open my door (and I get) mosquitos, flies. That water stinks so bad,” Rosa said.

Some tenants told Jose they are so fed up that they are in process of looking for another apartment.

A maintenance worker referred Jose to management when he asked about the air conditioning problems.

Jose tried contacting management, but has yet to hear back from them.
