Neighbors fear for their lives after string of violent attacks

SOUTH FULTON, Ga. — A neighborhood turned into a crime scene after two homes were attacked.

Both incidents happened in the newly-formed city of South Fulton.

Neighbors told Channel 2's Nefertiti Jaquez they think the attacks were in response to one man's murder.

Cedarhurst Trial stayed silent as residents refusing to leave their homes out of fear.

They’re scared after police said a home shot was more than 100 times.

“A lot of gunfire, and it sounded like we were in a war zone,” local resident Aerian Morris said. “It was quite frightening to fear for my family and self.”

Morris said he was at home when the rapid gunfire rang out Tuesday morning. He said the gunshots forced his entire family to duck for cover.

“It’s heart-wrenching. It’s sad,” Morris said.

Morris grew up in the Pointer Ridge subdivision. He said he has happy memories, but now he’s tired of the violence that plagues the area.

"It’s quite disturbing and bothers me every day,” Morris said.

He’s not alone. Local Charquitta Richardson said she is also concerned because the area is home to a notorious gang.

“On a day-to-day basis I have to call my parents and make sure they’re OK,” Richardson said.

A home around the corner from Richardson her was targeted on Wednesday.

In that case, investigators said the suspects shot at and firebombed a home.

Police said they believe both homes may have been targeted in retaliation for the death of Herman Roberts.

The 22-year-old was found dead at Creel Park on Oct. 10. Police believe Roberts may have been killed after being accused of stealing money.

But for now, the case remains unsolved  and residents remain rattled.

"This is a serious situation and it needs to be addressed,” Morris said.
