Police: Man kicked out of club starts shooting, crashes car

ATLANTA — A man was arrested after a shooting and chase outside a bar on Camp Creek Parkway in East Point. East Point Police said a man was kicked out of U-Bar early Wednesday morning after he became rowdy.

Security walked him outside, and said when he got into his car, the man started shooting toward the building.

The security officers called for backup and the man drove away. It happened around 2:15 a.m.

Only Channel 2 Action News was there as the gunman's car was hauled off after police said he lost control during the shooting.

Customers told Channel 2's Liz Artz the man got kicked out of the bar. Police said he removed his license plate and then opened fire outside U-Bar.

Police said the man shot and hit at least three cars before losing control of his own car, flipping several times.

When confronted by an off-duty officer, investigators said he pointed his gun at an officer who fired at the suspect but missed. The man, who police told Artz is 38-year-old, Ibrahim Oladunni, was taken into custody.

Customers described it as chaotic and frightening.

“We heard pow, pow, pow, inside and they said it was outside, it was scary. Like a big boom," witness Marie Furlough said. “Everybody heard shots and everybody scrambled to get out of there."

A man who said he is the stepfather of the shooter spoke to Artz Wednesday, and said he was trying to turn his life around.

“I know he doesn’t just go out and look for trouble like that,” Gary Thomas said.

Court records show Oladunni has been arrested dozens of times, mostly on drug related charges and was released from prison within the last five years.

"He's not a bad person, he just made a bad decision," said Thomas. "I always tried to tell him, sometimes you just have to walk away, but he made a mistake."
