Boil water advisory lifted for almost all areas in metro Atlanta

ATLANTA — A power outage from Saturday evening's storms triggered a temporary loss of pressure in the drinking water system at Hemphill.

The boil water advisory has since been lifted for all areas except the 745 block of Memorial Drive.

The system was restored to normal operations within approximately 45 minutes. In an abundance of caution, a boil water advisory remained in effect for the following areas until early Monday morning:

Streets between downtown Atlanta to the south including South Fulton County, west to the West End and east to Moreland Avenue. Affected areas include, but are not limited to, the Fox Theatre, Cabbagetown, Edgewood, Old Fourth Ward, West End, Peoplestown, Reynoldstown, Mechanicsville, Summerhill, Edgewood, Avon Avenue and South Fulton County.

Customers in those areas were advisef to boil water past a rolling boil for 1 minute before using it for cooking, drinking or brushing teeth. Infants, the elderly and those with immune deficiencies should be particularly careful. If you experienced a loss of water at your address but your address is not within the area described, you may want to follow these precautions.

As part of its capital improvement program, the Department of Watershed Management is constructing two in-town water tanks. The tanks will provide redundancy and protect in-town customers from similar outages in the future.
