SOUTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Police say they have discovered a chop shop disguised as a junkyard. More than 20 stolen cars have been recovered and the count is expected to climb.
John Harris told Channel 2's Chris Jose he had no idea the junkyard on Burton Road hid so many stolen vehicles.
“I've been out here for seven years but it's always been a nice establishment,” Harris told Jose.
Fulton County police spent all day Sunday going through each car. Investigators at the scene wouldn't give Jose details about what was going on but a Channel 2 Action News source who had direct knowledge of the investigation told Jose more than 20 vehicles were recovered from the junkyard.
“I'm glad it's only cars. I’m glad nobody was hurt,” Harris said

The source said a "tricked-out" pickup truck equipped with a LoJack recovery system led police to the alleged chop shop.
The truck and the wrecker it sits on were allegedly stolen from a hotel in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
“I counted probably nine or 10 that was on the scene,” Harris said.
Harris said he's never seen so many police officers on his street.

“I can't really say, though... It's kind of spooking me, though,” Harris said.
Police are investigating to determine who owns the junkyard and how many other stolen vehicles were there.
Tow truck drivers at the scene told Jose off camera they could be back on Monday to haul away even more cars and trucks. So far, no one has been arrested.
