Some drivers complain HOT lanes are getting too expensive

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Many drivers are keeping an eye on tolls lanes along Interstate 85 to see if they will break the $11 record reached over the past few mornings.

The state says numbers show that some drivers are willing to pay over $10 for the entire trip.

The price usually spikes during the peak morning commute hours.

Over the past two mornings, the HOT lanes cost commuters double digits for one way.

Channel 2's Audrey Washington spoke to the Deputy Executive Director of State Road and Tollway Authority about why prices are so high.

"The system takes into account the history of the corridor and what travel is like over multiple weeks," said Bert Brantley. "It's not as if one day it gets really bad and it spikes. We've got controls so it gradually increases to address the gradual increase in traffic."

But some drivers say it's just too much to pay.

"Most people can't afford as much as they want to get wherever they're going faster than before. I think it's too much money," said driver Susan Senhouse.
