Soldier shot, killed in Kirkwood laid to rest

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A funeral was held this weekend for a local soldier who was shot and killed in a Kirkwood robbery.

The service was held Saturday at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia to remember X’avier Arnold.

The 21-year-old soldier was killed while walking along a bike trail with friends. His family said they will use his death to shed light on fighting crime.

“He is the face of a new revolution, a fight against crime. The entire Kirkwood community and the city of Atlanta stand behind the movement to take back the community and demand justice," said James Conley.

Qutravius Palmer, 22, turned himself in to police on New Year’s Day in connection with Arnold’s murder. Police also arrested a 14-year-old boy, whose name has not been released because he’s a juvenile.

Both face felony murder and armed robbery charges
