Snellville Middle School student dies at school dance

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Grief counselors are at Snellville Middle School after one of its students died during a school dance Thursday night.

According to Principal Katise Menchan, the child experienced a medical emergency at the dance. Teachers and administrators came to the student’s aid and called 911. The boy was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A parent told Channel 2 Action News the boy was dancing and playing one minute, then collapsed on the dance floor.

In a letter to parents, Menchan said counselors and a crisis support team met with classmates of the student and were available at school Friday to talk to students.
