Shoplifting suspect crashes while fleeing from police, injures deputy

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. — Police are investigating a chase that ended with a car flipped over on Interstate 20 eastbound in Douglas County.

As News Chopper 2 flew overhead, a medic helicopter could be seen landing on the interstate.

Investigators said they were following a shoplifting suspect from Arbor Place Mall in Douglas County when the wreck happened.

The suspect's car flipped onto its top and hit a Douglas County deputy's cruiser.

The deputy was taken away in an ambulance. Someone from the suspect's car had to be airlifted to the hospital.

The eastbound lanes of I-20 had to be shut down while crews investigated the crash.
