“You miss somebody that’s just disappeared like this. I mean, I loved her very much,” said Evans' husband, Bill Evans.

Carol Evans was a retired teacher who was active with Habitat for Humanity.

The couple has two grown sons. Pictures of their eight grandchildren adorn the walls of their home. Now, Bill Evans is trying to cope with where she is after she walked away from their home.

"Alzheimer’s is a bad disease. It just confuses people completely," he said. “She says, 'Have you ever considered marriage?' I said, 'Yeah Carol, I married you 52 years ago,' so I got out some of the wedding pictures and showed her that kind of stuff.”

Bill Evans told Channel 2's Wendy Halloran he wishes he had hired a caretaker to watch over his wife, given her mental state. But says she was adamant she didn't want a babysitter.

He said he understands why authorities called off their search but says it’s hard.

“She cared for people dearly,” he said.

Anyone with information about this missing woman is asked to call the Troup County Sheriff's Office at 706-883-1616 or Troup County Crime Stoppers at 706-812-1000.
